Teachers - Grade 1, 2, 3
I could swim beside the canoe before I could walk, thanks to parents that embraced the outdoors. That life grew to include guiding, astronomy and outdoor education teaching. Chasing adventure, I moved to Yellowknife after my “formal” education at Trent (BSc.), Iceland (Geophysics) and Queen’s (BEd.). I took the winding road through education with years abroad before, during and after. Arriving in Yellowknife, the stars aligned and I found myself teaching at KDS. That was in 2008. I believe deeply in experiential learning, project based learning and early literacy interventions. My classroom is enriched with art, drama and music provided by specialists, and my own rich background in outdoor education. I appreciate our multi-age groupings as they allow us to spend longer periods of time with our students. Building relationships with students is our primary job as educators and engaging them with what spurs their interests and passions. Outside of school I love to read, play outside and explore our wonderful world.
